Coloring inside the lines

To any and all Readers,

Conformity... Ever notice how many people worry about what the "cool" thing to wear, listen to or do is? They're getting younger everyday too. I have a niece who starts school tomorrow. She came to me yesterday evening asking me if the outfit she plans on wearing for the first day of school looks stupid, because she's afraid she's going to be made fun of. Now, how do you explain to a twelve year old girl that she should just be herself and not worry about what others think of her? I personally think you can only teach that behaviour by demonstrating yourself. This is why I try to be the most original person I can be. Generally people see me as just a socially awkward person who comes off as boring. Honestly, I probably am pretty awkward, but it doesn't bother me, I like to color outside the lines. People either except you or they don't that's just the way life goes, isn't it?

If you were to go to a school today and just walk around or maybe watch the children eat there lunch, you might be surprised as to what you might see. You might see a table filled with "goth" kids, or another with "preps" or skaters, punks, rockers, geeks, ect. But conformity creates labels, doesn't it?

Labels are for filing. Labels are for clothing. Labels are not for people.
~Martina Navratilova
I couldn't agree more with that. Society should be ashamed for creating such labels. People are who they want to be, not what they wear or how they look.

Stay off the path,
